Shakespeare Performance Troupe Presents: After Juliet

Come see SPT's last production of the semester, Sharman Macdonald's After Juliet!

What: After Juliet is a continuation of the Romeo & Juliet storyline that picks up where Shakespeare left off. And if you thought that the Montagues and Capulets were done with the petty drama and doomed love, think again. The play follows Rosaline Capulet, Juliet's cousin and Romeo's ex-flame, as she plots to avenge the death of her beloved. Meanwhile, Romeo's cousin Benvolio finds himself enamored with Rosaline and, having apparently learned nothing from recent events, tries to pursue a relationship with her.

When: 7:30 pm on the following dates:
-Thursday, Nov. 3
-Friday, Nov. 4
-Saturday, Nov. 5

Where: Erdman Common Room

RSVP's are not required, but we would love it if you joined our Facebook event!

Admission is free for all community members and guests. If you would like to reserve seats, please contact jaggarwal@brynmawr.edu.

☆FALL 2016 AUDITIONS☆

Calling all thespians! It is that time of year again! Shakespeare Performance Troupe is holding auditions for our Fall 2016 shows! This semester, we are putting on:

After Juliet- A sequel to Romeo and Juliet that picks up where Shakespeare left off. In the wake of the deaths of our infamous star-crossed lovers, the Montagues and the Capulets have called a tense truce (spoiler alert: it doesn't last). Meanwhile, Romeo's best friend Benvolio has fallen in love with Juliet's cousin (and Romeo's ex) Rosaline, who is hell-bent on revenge. Even more pettiness and doomed love ensue. (Directed by Kat Phifer)

Shortspeare: The Shakesperience- An original mash-up of the Bard's greatest hits, selected, directed, and performed by various members of SPT. Audition for and/or submit your favorite Shakespeare scenes and monologues that you'd like to direct or perform as part of the show. If you think you might be interested in directing, this is a great opportunity for you to try it out without committing to directing an entire show! (Overall director will be Charis Nandor, directors for individual scenes TBA)

Dates and Times:
Where: Rhoads Quiet Study
When: Thursday, September 8 from 5-9 pm AND Friday, September 9 from 5-10 pm

*Callbacks will be held on Saturday, September 10th

Sign-ups:
You may sign up here for a ten-minute slot during the first two hours of either audition period. From 7:00 pm onward, we will be having walk-in auditions. If you are auditioning with a partner, please sign up for two back-to-back time slots (or just come to walk-ins together) Please keep in mind that if you are auditioning during walk-in hours, there may be a bit of a wait.

If you can't make any of the audition times provided or any of the unclaimed time slots, please e-mail the directors (contact info can be found at the bottom of this post) and we will find a way to fit you in!

Audition materials:
Auditions materials can be found here or on the right-hand sidebar under "Important Links." Please select ONE MONOLOGUE and ONE DIALOGUE from the auditions materials to perform. You may audition for one or both shows but your monologue and your dialogue must come from two different shows (even if you are only auditioning for one of them)

Things to know if you haven't auditioned before:
  • You may either prepare your dialogue with a partner or just have someone in the audition room read with you on the day of.
  • Auditioning for both shows means that you could be placed in either show. You will not be placed in both shows.
  • You DO NOT not need to memorize your monologue and dialogue, and we will have the audition materials available at auditions, but it is in your best interest to do some preparation and practice beforehand.
  • If you signed up for a time slot, please arrive at least 5 minutes before your scheduled audition time, because you will need to fill out an audition form prior to your audition.
  • Please be as honest as possible when filling out your audition form to ensure that you will be comfortable in your role and available for rehearsals.
  • A call-back is not a guarantee that you will be cast. Likewise, you may still be cast even if you are not called back.

Spring 2015 Auditions!

Oh yeah, time to

AUDITION
…for Shakespeare's classic tale of love, plots, and games of wit, Much Ado About Nothing ☆, and for the equally classic tragedy of ghosts, feigned madness, and revenge, Hamlet

Auditions will be held in
Rhoads Quiet Study (in the basement)
Thursday, January 28th, 6pm - 9pm
Friday, January 29th, 6pm - 10pm
Callbacks Saturday, January 30th

You can sign-up for a 10-minute slot during the first two hours (6-8) of each audition day, with the last hour/two hours (respectively) reserved for walk-ins. (that is, you don't have to sign up for 8-9 pm on the 28th or 8-10 pm on the 29th).   If you're auditioning with a partner (which is neither necessary nor required), you should select two back-to-back audition slots (or just come to walk-ins together).   The link to slot sign-up is here, and will go live at noon this Saturday, January 23rd.

Plus, you can join the Facebook event here.

Audition materials are in the link in the right side entitled "Audition Materials", or hereYou will be asked to perform one monologue and one dialogue. You can bring a partner to read the dialogue with you, or someone in the auditioning room will read with you.  It's highly recommended that the monologue be from one play and the dialogue from the other.

For those of you who are new to the SPT audition process or need a little refresher here are some things to keep in mind:

Prepare! Read the script and practice your monologue/dialogue before auditioning.  That being said, you do not need to have either memorised.
Come to auditions whenever is best for you, but keep in mind that there might be a wait, especially during walk-ins. Bring work to do or practice your audition materials while you wait. Talk to the people waiting with you and make some new friends!
• If you signed up for a slot, please be prepared to come a little early and stay a little late.
Unlike some other audition processes, for our purposes being called back does not mean that you have been cast. Likewise, not being called back doesn’t mean that you have not been cast.
Fill out your audition sheet (available upon arrival to auditions) with complete honesty to ensure that you are happy and comfortable with any role you are offered.

Questions? Can't make any of the times listed? Signup slots already full? Email lbrougham@brynmawr.edu, the director of Hamlet, or kkelliher@brynmawr.edu, the director of Much Ado About Nothing.
Do you want to do Technical Theater for us? Email the directors above with the subject "Teching for SPT". We would love to have you.

We can't wait to see you at auditions!
