Couldn't get enough Shakespeare last weekend? Want to witness a
tale of steampunk, cutpurses, true love, and deceit? You won't want to
miss SPT's second and final performance of the fall semester:
**THE ROARING GIRL**
Written by Thomas Middleton & Thomas Dekker
Directed by Christina Pellegrino '18
Set
during a steampunk Victorian England, The Roaring Girl follows the
various shenanigans of characters as they try to make their dreams come
true with Moll Cutpurse, a gender non-conforming Robin Hood-type, at the
center of it all. Sebastian Wengrave enlists the help of Moll, so that
he can marry his fiancΓ© Mary Fitzallard, and convince his father that
Mary is the best person Sebastian could marry. Sebastian’s father, Sir
Alexander, distressed that his son is 'in love' with a person who does
not follow traditional values enlists the help of Trapdoor, a thief, to
spy on Moll. Goshawk and Laxton, two gallants, try to seduce Mrs.
Gallipot and Mrs. Openwork, merchants’ wives, to no avail. Come for the
steampunk; stay for the shenanigans.
